Bio

Barbara Ceriani Basilico (Saronno, 1979) and Alessandro Mancassola (Arzignano, 1979) began working together in 2005 during the two-year specialization in Visual and Performing Arts at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, while following courses and seminars held by Concetto Pozzati, Jannis Kounellis, Anselm Kiefer, Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Laura Cherubini and Bruno Muzzolini who was also their thesis advisor.

They dedicate their research to video and photography, and among their first exhibitions are the 90th Young Artists Collective of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice, So many Men at the MAMM in Medellìn, the Onufri Prize ‘06 at the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana and the Mulliqi Prize 2006 at the Kosova Art Gallery in Pristina.

In 2007 they organized interventions within the Undo.net 2video with Matteo Rubbi and  showed the video Roye Lee at the C/O Careof in Milan during the exhibition I 7 arcobaleni, subsequently the same video was presented to the Merz Foundation during Video.it.

In 2010 Shark Tale was filmed and exhibited at the Saint-Bénin Center in Aosta as part of The Courage. Contemporary art by the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa based on a project by Francesco Bonami. The same work was exhibited in 2012 at the Center Pompidou in Paris during Hors Pistes.

In 2012 they shot Fans – Finland as artists in residence at Raumars in Finland. Later they took part in an exhibition for the 40th anniversary of the Galleria Civica di Valdagno, curated by Eva Fabbris, and in an exhibition project curated by Davide Giannella entitled Glitch. Interference between art and cinema, hosted by the PAC Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Milan and by OCAT in Shanghai. They starred in video festivals in Israel, China, Australia, Romania, Italy and Spain. In 2017 they began the production of a series of video portraits of Elio Marchesini, (percussionist of the Divertimento Ensemble and of Teatro alla Scala) the last of which, Another day, was commissioned by the PAC and presented on the occasion of the Contemporary Art Day 2020.

Barbara, after graduating in Painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, specialized in art therapy. She was a designer for Ratti Spa, designing for Kenzo and MAX & Co. She gives creative/experiential workshops for children and adults in schools, health facilities and prisons.

Alessandro, after graduating in Painting at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, participated in the 2003 Venice Biennale with a collective project called Omuse. In 2001 and 2003 he took part in the Real Presence in Belgrade, curated by Biljana Tomic and Dobrila Denegri. He curated exhibitions of such artists as Matteo Rubbi, Alberto Tadiello, Thanos Zakopoulos, Nicola Trezzi and Michele Bazzana. He teaches video for the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and G. Carrara Academy of Fine Arts in Bergamo.
